In Plato's Cave
These three-dimensional collages were constructed on a table top. The resulting photographs frequently transcribe the collage's reflection, cast shadows, or transformation through layers of translucent material lit from the rear. Working in this manner frequently led to thoughts of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, an account of perception and knowledge in which it is proposed that we do not experience reality directly. While it would be laughable to suggest that this series illustrates Platonic ideas about perception and knowledge, it is not a novel notion to suggest that a photograph (painting, etc.) can serve as a staging ground for thoughts and ideas that move us far beyond the simple visual facts before our eyes.

This was a short-lived series - one that never developed beyond a few shooting sessions and a handful of variants using the same props. The idea may have been too fuzzy or perhaps over thought. In either case, it remains in an unfinished state.
