Paul Karabinis is Associate Professor of Photography at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville. From 1982 until 2007 he served as Director of the University Gallery at UNF. He has organized numerous exhibitions and authored several catalogs including: Gathering Light: Photographs from the Collection of Joe and Jennifer Duke, University of North Florida (2001); Telling Stories: Contemporary Tableau Photography, Jacksonville Museum of Contemporary Art (1996); and History/Mystery: The Photographs of Jerry N. Uelsmann 1957-1993, Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida (1993). In 2005, a chapter in Maggie Taylor: Landscape of Dreams (Adobe Press) was devoted to Karabinis' commentary on the digital artist. Karabinis also wrote the introduction to Jerry Uelsmann: Other Realities, a monograph published by Bullfinch Press in 2005. In 2006 he wrote the catalog essay and commentaries for Sheltering Eye: Selections from the Prentice and Paul Sack Photography Collection, an exhibition organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. Most recently, Karabinis co-curating and wrote the catalog for Shared Vision, The Sondra Gilman and Celso Gonzalez-Falla Collection of Photography.

Karabinis' photographs have been displayed in galleries and museums including: University of Maine Art Museum; Mobile Museum of Art; The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville; The Norton Museum of Art, Boca Raton, Florida; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; Soho Photo Gallery; and the University of Notre Dame. In 2003 he received an Art Ventures Grant from the Community Foundation of Jacksonville to explore methods of producing digital negatives for use with historical photographic processes. Currently, his work features both camera-made and cameraless photographs rendered through traditional and historical photographic processes.
